Flag officers, coaches, instructors, and dock crew—most of whom learned to sail right here. In their own words, here is who will be on the water with you this summer.
Leadership
The volunteers and staff who keep the club running, on the water and off.
Tim is a retired U.S. Coast Guard captain who spent 26 years in the service, including command assignments afloat and ashore; he now works at Microsoft helping government organizations with digital transformation. He and his wife Maryse are year-round York residents, all three of their children came up through AYC as sailors, racers, and instructors, and Tim has served on the board since 2016 as clerk, vice commodore, and commodore.
A 20-plus-year York resident and national sales manager for a global sailing brand, Nat stretches the family boating season from March to December. He and his wife Lisa joined AYC ten years ago, and all three of their children have grown up on the club dock as sailors, racers, and instructors. Nat has served on the board since 2023—and patrols ski slopes as a volunteer in the winter.
Hi! I’ve been part of the AYC community since I was eight, when I first learned to sail here, and I spent many summers as an instructor. I graduated from Amherst College in 2025 with a degree in education and psychology, and during the school year I teach 8th-grade English in New York City. I can’t wait to spend another great summer at AYC!
Coaches & instructors
Every class runs with at least two instructors, led by US Sailing–certified staff.
I grew up in York, but my sailing life began at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. I’ve sailed for over 13 years and taught for six—three as an instructor and three as a coach. As Program Director I oversee the junior programs; as Opti coach I help sailors build boat handling, racing tactics, and sportsmanship. I’m a US Sailing Level 3 instructor, CPR and First Aid certified, hold a Coast Guard Launch Operator’s License, and study at Trinity College. The most rewarding part is watching sailors achieve goals they never thought possible.
I live in York year-round and attend UVM, where I’m on the sailing team. I’ve been at AYC for twelve summers and raced for ten. I’m looking forward to coaching this summer and traveling the seacoast.
I’m going into my junior year at York High School and have sailed at AYC for nine years—junior sailing, race team, and now instructing. I love the people, the environment, and the sailing! This year I’m teaching Clippers and assisting Schooners. See you on the dock!
I didn’t grow up sailing—I started in high school when I joined my school’s 420 racing team, and I quickly fell in love with the sport. Last summer was my first at AYC, and it was the first job I truly enjoyed coming to every day. I’m super excited to be back for another season.
I’ve been part of the program since I was eight years old. I’m also a captain of my high school’s sailing team and volunteer with Sail Blind. When I’m not sailing you’ll find me reading or being active. I love teaching sailing and can’t wait to meet all of you this summer!
You can call me Max! I’ve been with AYC for seven years—first as a camper, then a racer, and now an instructor. I’m 17, live in Reading, Massachusetts, and am a rising senior at St. John’s Prep. This year I’ll be helping with Cutters. Here’s to a fun—but more importantly safe—summer!
Junior instructors & dock crew
Junior instructors assist in every class—most were AYC junior sailors themselves just a few seasons ago.
I’ve been coming to AYC since I was eight and joined the race team at ten. I love spending my summers here—sailing, racing, or hanging out with friends—and I’m excited to help make this summer fun for everyone!
I’m 15, going into my sophomore year, and I’ve sailed at AYC for five years. This is my third season on the 420 race team and my first as a junior instructor. I’m looking forward to helping younger sailors gain experience, build confidence, and have fun on the water.
I’ve been sailing at AYC for eight years and racing for the past five. My time here has given me a strong passion for the sport, and I’m excited to help younger sailors build confidence and learn new skills.
This is my ninth summer at AYC, and I’m on the 420 race team! I play lacrosse and soccer at Newton South High School in Massachusetts. This summer I’ll be a junior instructor for Clippers and Schooners.
I’m 15 and live in York year-round, where I’m in 10th grade at York High School. I’ve sailed at AYC for about seven years, and I recently helped start a spring sailing program at my school, sailing 420s out of Portsmouth. I also love fishing and mountain biking with friends.
I’m 15, a rising sophomore, and a junior instructor here at AYC, where I’ve sailed for around eight years. I live in Richmond, Virginia, and in my free time I love playing tennis and going places with friends.
I live in York, and this fall I’ll be attending St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. I grew up at AYC alongside my older brother and sister, and the club has been a big part of my life. I look forward to helping members and guests enjoy their time at the club this summer.
