2025 AYC Staff
Ben Northrop is a US Sailing Level 2 certified instructor excited to be returning to AYC, this year as Director of Junior Sailing. He is thrilled to be teaching Schooners and spending time on the water, and he is looking forward to his year abroad at the London School of Economics in the fall!
Grace Gear has been sailing with the club for 13 years, and this year is the Director of Junior Racing. She’s a skipper for UVM sailing team, where she studies Biochemistry. In her free time, Grace enjoys skiing, surfing, and just being outside. Owen Sherman has been sailing at AYC for eight years, and he is excited to be returning to AYC for another season. He is studying industrial engineering at Northeastern University, and he’s looking forward to beginning his second year in the fall. Matthew Sullivan will be rejoining the AYC staff for his third year as dock steward. This year, he is also looking forward to being out on the water instructing classes. During the off season he will be taking classes at a community college before returning to Salve Regina in the spring. Matt is very excited for this summer at AYC! Calvin May is a 420 Race Coach and the Head instructor of Caravels. He just graduated from High School in Vermont and loves to surf and ski when he’s not working at AYC. He has been racing sailboats for 8 years. Sam Maynard is leading the Schooners class this year. She has been sailing at AYC for 10 years, and was on the race team for 7 years. She also plays field hockey, squash, and lacrosse during the school year. This fall, she will be attending Amherst College. Sam is so excited for this summer at AYC! Jill Carr is the Clippers instructor at AYC. She has been sailing for 9 years and loves spending time out on the water. Starting in September, Jill will be a senior at York High School. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, hanging out with friends, and playing ice hockey and softball. She’s looking forward to another fun summer at AYC! John O’Rourke is excited to be returning to AYC this year. This will be his first year as a full instructor but he has been sailing at AYC for nine years going on his tenth. He will be helping out teaching galleons and clippers II this summer. |
