Meet the 2017 AYC Staff
Rob Dresser - Program Director and 420 Race Coach
Rob is looking forward to his second season at AYC. Last fall, he worked at the Duxbury Maritime Academy and this spring at Notre Dame Academy coaching sailing. He is a level two US sailing instructor who is still an active racer in the Lightning class. As a kid, he grew up racing many different boats and cruising on the family sailboat all over. He raced in high school for Hingham High School and in college he started the Plymouth State University sailing club. In the winters Rob is a ski coach at Waterville Valley and for the Abenaki Ski Team.
Elliott Gear – Opti Race Coach
Elliott Gear has been sailing at AYC since he was 8 years old. Starting in Optis, he has progressed through nearly all of the classes offered at AYC, and he has been a member of both the Opti and 420/ Laser Race Teams for the past 8 years. When not sailing in the spring and summer, he enjoys running track, running cross country and skiing. He will be a freshman at the University of Vermont in September.
Katherine Bertolini - Senior Instructor
Katherine will be a senior instructor for AYC this summer. She is excited to be returning for her 10th summer at AYC, after participating in both the junior sailing program and the race teams. When not out on the water, Katherine runs cross country and sails. . She will be starting her freshman year at Boston University this fall.
Madi Lavigne – Senior Instructor
Madi has been sailing at AYC for over ten years and has been part of the staff as either a junior instructor or instructor for four years! She went through the program and raced with AYC in the summer and MSST in the spring. When not on the water, Madi runs cross country and track and likes going on adventures with her friends. Madi will be attending Colby College in Waterville, Maine next year.
Sammie Gaudette - Instructor
Sammie is a recent high school graduate from Berwick . At Berwick she played three different varsity sports all four years of high school: Field Hockey, Swimming and Golf. Sammie lives here in York and has been sailing at AYC since 2011. She raced on the 420 race team for four years and is very excited to be a sailing instructor at AYC teaching in the junior sailors program. Next year, she will attend Salve Regina University in Newport RI where she will study Biology/Pre Med and play Field Hockey. She is looking forward to seeing everyone on the docks soon!
Olivia Jarvis - Instructor
Olivia has been sailing with AYC since she was 8 years old. She goes to Brooks School in North Andover where she participates in their sailing program and plays squash and lacrosse. This is her first year as a full instructor and she is so excited for another season with AYC.
Ava Scholes - Instructor
Ava has been sailing since the age of 10. She has spent 6 of the last 7 years at AYC, where she continued up through almost all of the offered classes. Ava also likes to draw, play lacrosse, play volleyball, and ski. She also played violin for 10 years before switching to piano. Ava is very excited to be an instructor at AYC.
Ben Northrup – Junior Instructor
Ben Northrop is very excited to be joining the AYC staff. He has been sailing at the club since the age of eight, moved through many of the classes offered, and was a member of the 420 race team. He looks forward to sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for sailing with the student he will be teaching.
Family Dinners at the York Harbor Reading Room
The York Harbor Reading Room has invited members of AYC to join them on their deck for their fabulous Family Suppers on Thursday nights, from June 19th to October 2nd, from 6 - 9 p.m.
Please call in advance for dinner reservations at (207) 363-2450 or 363-2562. There are occasionally a few exceptions to the dates for Reading Room special events. Check the club bulletin board or your Member Directory for these specific dates.
Dress is casual, but no jeans, and payment by personal check. Your guests are welcome, but they must dine on your tab, or pay separately by personal check..
Club Hours of Operation
AYC will be open beginning June 27th through Labor Day weekend. Additionally we will be open weekends in September until Sunday, September 11th. The clubhouse is open:
You and your guests are always welcome during these hours, even if you just want to sit and chat under the umbrella at the end of the dock while you watch the hustle-bustle of the harbor.
